PRP Facial – Vampire Facial

PRP facials – often referred to as ‘Vampire Facials’ – are skincare and beauty treatments that have rapidly swept the world and the aesthetic scene. This treatment has fast become many people’s go-to procedure for a quick and lasting beauty pick-me-up.
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma: a natural resource which can be extracted from the patients blood and used for topical cell regeneration. PRP facials make use of these naturally occurring healing properties to bring back youth and radiance to the face.
PRP or Vampire Facials have an incredible ability to brighten the face, making it look more plump, hydrated and healthy as well as free from fine lines and wrinkles. The millions of people turning to PRP treatments do so because this is a treatment that combines the best of both worlds, being something of a comprehensive facial and an instant facelift in one.

How does the Vampire Facial work?

A small amount of blood is taken from you and then treated in a machine called a centrifuge to harvest the platelet rich plasma. This plasma is rich in growth factors, these are the cells responsible for repair in our bodies. The plasma is then re-injected into the face in order to stimulate and enhance collagen production – in return this will plump and lift and improve the skins texture and tone as well as improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Would I be suitable for this treatment?

This treatment can be used to address a range of skin concerns and simply the ageing process, this makes it a diverse option for anyone who wants a natural way to rejuvenate their skin and maintain their youthful appearance. It is suitable for both men and women of any age over 18 and with all skin types. As with all treatments you will need a consultation in order for Dr Malik to assess if this is the right procedure for you. There are certain conditions such as platelet dysfunction syndrome, sepsis and chronic liver pathology may make you unsuitable for treatment, these can be discussed at your free consultation.

Does it hurt?

This facial treatment does involve injections so it may be a little uncomfortable but topical anaesthetic is used to minimise the discomfort you may feel, our experience has shown that most patients find the treatment very tolerable with many experiencing and reporting no pain at all.

How long does it take?

This treatment can take up to 45 minutes. 3 treatment session

How long is the recovery period?

PRP or Platelet Rich plasma is one of the safest treatments that we practice at Parkhill and in cosmetic medicine in general because it uses your own blood, so there’s nothing external added at all.

PRP has been used for many years now with no reported major risk factors or side effects whatsoever. The kit that we use is sterile and disposable, used only once per patient and disposed off afterwards.

There is very little downtime with the procedure. Your face may look a little pink immediately after treatment but this will resolve in a couple of hours. You may also have minor bruising but if this happens it should settle within couple of days without anything to be concerned about.

What can I expect from a “Vampire Facial”?

This revolutionary and natural treatment can give outstanding, natural looking results. Patients have commented that their skin looks healthier, brighter and more hydrated and has a more youthful glow. The skin will also appear firmer and lines and wrinkles will be visibly improved. Texture and tone will also be improved and volume can be restored resulting in a much desired lifting effect. Results will typically last 12-24 months depending on how much you take care of your face.

How many treatments will I need?

Patients will need a course of 3 treatments with 4 -6 weeks between each treatment.

Maintenance treatments may be needed every 6 months however periods will vary between patients.

How quickly will I see changes?

Improvements may be seen a few days after each treatment but maximum improvement will be seen 2 -3 months after the third treatment.

Are there any side affects?

If bruising does occur it is usually only minor. Swelling is to be expected but usually settles down in 1 – 2 days’ time except around the eyes that can take 4 – 7 days to subside completely.

There may be a slight purple discolouration of the skin for 2-3 days due to the colour of the patient’s plasma.
