An echocardiogram is a type of scan which examines the structure of your heart and how well it is working.
It works much the same way as the ultrasounds used for pregnancy scans; using high frequency sound waves to create a moving, real-time image of your heart.
By reflecting these sound waves against the structure of your heart, our Bolton cardiologists can measure the size and functions of your heart as well as monitor the blood flow across your heart’s valves.
If you’ve been told you need a heart scan by your GP or would like a private echocardiogram and expert advice on your heart issues, Parkhill Health Care offer private heart scan treatment for early diagnosis and accurate monitoring of suspected heart conditions for our patients in Bolton and from across Greater Manchester.
Why might you need a private echocardiogram?
A private heart scan can be used to detect and monitor a wide variety of problems and conditions affecting the heart quickly and effectively.
Patients often come to our Greater Manchester practice for a private heart scan when their doctor suspects there may be a problem with the valves or chambers of their heart or if they have symptoms of heart problems such as chest pain or shortness of breath.
An echocardiogram can be used in the diagnosis and assessment of:
- Heart murmurs
- Atrial fibrillation
- Abnormalities in the heart valves
- Congenital heart disease
- Diseases that affect the heart muscle and the way it pumps blood
- Pump function in patients with heart failure or damaged heart muscles following a heart attack
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Fluid around the heart
- Blood clots and tumors inside the heart
Private echocardiogram scans are completely safe and painless and can be used on adults, young children, newborn babies, and even unborn babies.
Your private heart scan
When you come in to our Greater Manchester practice, you’ll be met by our cardiology and sonography experts. You will be able to ask them any questions you may have about the procedure before you go ahead.
You’ll simply need to lay on your left-hand side on the bed with your left arm behind your head. Your Bolton doctor will then put a clear jelly over the left side of your chest to help amplify the soundwaves from the sensor.
We’ll then move the probe across your chest which sends out the soundwaves to your heart. These signals then echo back to the sensor to display a scan of the inside of your heart on the monitor.
Our team will then monitor your heart rhythm from your private echocardiogram alongside the scan images to understand how well your heart is performing.
How much does a private heart scan cost?
Your private echocardiogram will be an outpatient procedure, meaning you can go home the same day as your test. It should only take between half an hour and forty minutes to complete and you’ll be able to go about your day as normal.
Our Greater Manchester cardiology team may be able to talk you through the results of your scan right away. In other cases, the scan images may need to be reviewed in more detail.
Your doctor will then call you back in to our surgery in Bolton after a day or so to go through the findings with you. We will also send a report of your private heart scan to your GP for future reference in treatment planning.
Your private heart scan consultation will cost £50 and the complete scan, professional assessment, and report for your private echocardiogram treatment costs just £300.
