Meet the Parkhill Dental Team

Mr Duncan Read

Mr Duncan Read

General Dentist

BDS (Dundee1982)

GDC No. 56606

Duncan Qualified from Dundee University Dental School in 1982.

Until recently he has worked as a dentist at Reads Dental Practice. He managed and owned the general dental practice alongside his brother David and father Harold, who were also dentists.

He has gained a vast experience of general dental practice during his time at Reads Dental Practice and has served the population of Bolton and its surrounds for over 30 years. He enjoys all aspects of his work, however he is especially interested in helping patients, no matter how nervous they may be, to maintain a healthy and attractive smile.

Duncan is excited to be given the opportunity to join the team at Parkhill Health Care

Duncan was born in Lancashire but attended Giggleswich School in North Yorkshire. Following school he gained entrance to Dundee University in Scotland. He was interested in and took part in sports of all descriptions but was most interested in Rugby. He played for the school first XV for 3 consecutive years, the university team and a local rugby club in Dundee.

After qualification with a Batchelor of Dental Surgery Degree from Dundee University in 1982 Duncan worked for 6 months in the Children’s Dental Clinic at Deansgate in Bolton.

In 1983 he moved to Germany for two years and treated the civilian population in a Private Dental Practice in Bad Salzuflen. Here he gained valuable experience in providing crowns, bridges and precision attachment dentures.

Duncan returned to Bolton in 1985 where he joined his father, Harold, and brother, David, at their family dental practice, Reads Dental Practice in Farnworth, Bolton. It seems the Read family lack imagination in choice of profession as Duncan’s younger brother, Nicholas, is also a Dental Technician and the daughter of his cousin is an Orthodontist. In 1992 Reads Dental Practice moved towards providing Private Dental Care. This allowed Duncan to help patients without restrictions in materials or time. For over 25 years he has gained valuable experience in providing general dental treatment of the highest possible quality alongside a preventive approach to dental problems. He has been able to see the same patients over a long period of time. Some since they were school children who in turn have brought their own children to see Duncan. It has added to his understanding, and experience, of providing long lasting restorative treatment and has reinforced his commitment to the prevention of dental problems occurring in the first instance. If restoration of patient’s teeth has become necessary Duncan’s wide experience in providing veneers, crowns, bridges, dentures, root treatments and gum treatments has helped his patients maintain healthy smiles.

In his spare time nowadays, Duncan likes nothing more than to head for the ocean waves, whether it be to dive under them or sail/power boat on the surface. He is a very keen SCUBA diver. Being a BSAC Advanced Instructor and First Class Diver, which is the highest diving grade awarded to a member of The British Sub-Aqua Club, he enjoys teaching boat handling and diving.

Duncan is now delighted to join the team at Parkhill Health Care to continue, with his experience and his passion, helping patients with their dental care.
